Interview with KIMIKA

Welcome to CBC Spotlight, our monthly blog series where we interview members of the Youtaite community! Sign up for your chance to be interviewed. Today, I’m interviewing KIMIKA.

Tell us about yourself!

Hewooo >< I’m KIMIKA, also known as Magenta Moon in some parts of the art community. I’m an artist and youtaite who’ve been in the community for quite a while (although I’ve only just started making friends with other youtaites about a year ago through CBs)! I actually never thought I’d be a youtaite until one day, I randomly just had the courage to post my first cover. It was really nerve-racking back then cuz I didn’t know what people would think but the feedback was really positive!! Ever since then, I’ve been actively posting covers on my youtube channel~

How'd you first become involved with the Youtaite community?

I think it was about a year after I got into being a youtaite, I decided to revive my twitter account and after following one youtaite (who I gathered all my courage to ask for a collab), it started to recommend me more youtaites and I was able to make friends with many new people! I also think that I was really able to become part of the community when I joined CBC (about a week after I revived my twitter), since I met A LOT of people here and joined collabs and CBs.

What made you wanna participate in chorus battles?

I first saw CB entries many years ago but didn't understand what all the abbreviations was for haha X'D But actually the reason was probably that saw one of my artist friends join a CB and I became interested in what it was (that was also how i found CBC~) And so I decided to try joining one since it seemed really fun, and plus I wanted to make more friends in the community!

What was your first CB?

I joined two CBs at the same time at that time (I know, worst choice ever for a newbie), and doubling in both CBs lol I really didn't understand the workload that came with it haha But yeah my first CB was KACB (Kawaakari Academy CB) and AICB (Aikatsu! Dream Stars CB)!

How'd you become interested in being a Vocalist & Artist?

I've been drawing ever since I could remember (prob around 3-4 years old?) but I was really bad at it, despite loving it so much XD and so as the years go by I improved a lot (taking classes, looking at tutorials etc) and it's been one of my favorite hobbies! I really love drawing my original characters and designing clothes for them~ I think of myself as someone with a creative mind since I would always like to create new stories and characters just for fun, and drawing has helped bring my characters to life!

As for being a vocalist, it's pretty much the same thing with drawing except I didn't take classes or look for tutorials lol but yeah, I've loved singing since I was young (I usually sing and draw at the same time cuz double the fun haha) At first I never thought to post any of singing online though, since I was really shy and conscious of my own voice, and I never really wanted to reveal my face online. I then discovered vocaloid (yes I was tempted to make a MMD model in order to sing once) and youtaites, and so, the only hurdle left was my confidence. At that time, my online friends had pushed me by saying they had wanted to hear me sing and so, I decided to post my first cover and the feedback was really good so I decided to continue until now~

Any funny or amusing CB stories?

So one of my first CBs, AICB, was formed with my friends. When we were deciding who was going to be the leader, I got elected cuz I was the oldest in the group lol And so, I ,who had no CB experience prior, became the leader and got the sub leader (who was in one CB before) to teach me how things go haha It was definitely both fun and hectic at the same time since we were really a last minute group, and with little to no experience X'D

Any advice for people interested in CBs?

I would say if you're interested, definitely try joining one! You'll really get to learn a lot and make new friends! I myself have improved by A LOT, be it as an artist or a vocalist, after I joined a few CBs. I've learned a lot from my friends and even from other teams competing in the same CB! I know it takes courage to sign up for a CB team but you could always try it out and if it doesn't work, you could make your own team or find friends who are interested in it! My only advice however, is that don't try to take on too much, especially when you're new to CBs! This could be joining multiple CBs with close deadlines, or juggling too many roles. One CB entry takes A LOT of work, especially if you're staffing, so you'll have to be sure you can complete your part in time.

Joining CBs is really fun and rewarding so I definitely recommend to try joining!
