Interview with TANGHULUタンフル

Welcome to CBC Spotlight, our monthly blog series where we interview members of the Youtaite community! Sign up for your chance to be interviewed. Today, I’m interviewing TANGHULUタンフル.

Tell us about yourself!

Hello there~!! ☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆

My name is TANGHULUタンフル, and I am a YouTaite~!! I’ve been singing for a very long time, and always looked up to Utaites~ At first, I believed them to be untouchable beings of sorts, until I found the YouTaite community~!! (o^^o)

I’ve realised that anyone can sing if they put their mind to it, and I’m really thankful to everyone that’s helped me find the version of myself that I like~!! (๑>◡<๑)

How'd you first become involved with the Youtaite community?

At first, simple interest in Utaites had pulled me into the world of singing. I didn't think much after listening to their covers other than that they were really cool. Over time, my interest in Vocaloid and J-Pop grew, reaching a height that I wouldn't know about until after I had listened to a YouTaite cover from a talented beginner. I decided to release my first cover on March 2nd, 2021, then started searching for advice on how to get better at singing somewhere around March 18th, just a few days later. This led me to find out about something called a 'Chorus Battle' on a site called 'Chorus Battle Central.' I met many cool and fun people through a simple Discord link I clicked on not too long ago, and I'm really glad I took the opportunity.

What made you wanna participate in chorus battles?

After having searched up what YouTaites did, I found out about something called a Chorus Battle. The name of these battles immediately intrigued me, and I decided to try my luck and find a group recruiting for one. Only to find that most of the events had already ended. Joining Chorus Battle Central, I found an entire section dedicated to recruiting for the events. This made me very excited, but I decided to wait until I had gained more experience as a Youtaite to be part of one. This was my mistake, as I later found out that they don't come back, after having wanted to join KANARII Chorus Battle.

What was your first CB?

My first Chorus Battle was a Smule battle by the acronym of TZRCB, The Zodiac Race Chorus Battle. Registration for this event was about to end, but I pushed my luck and formed a team for it. We didn't make it past the first stage, unfortunately. My first YouTube Chorus Battle is one called Good Games Chorus Battle. I couldn't believe that someone had actively scouted me for it, and I still feel honored to this day.

How'd you become interested in being an Artist & Vocalist?

I had loved art and singing since I was a child, and seeing how YouTaites did both made me love the two roles even more. I have improved a lot in both areas since, and I am grateful to the community for giving me a chance to exercise my passions.

Any funny or amusing CB stories?

I once participated in a battle called N. G. E. P. Fest CB, and although it was a duo/trio Smule event, I participated by myself. When the scoring and rubrics came out, the funniest thing about the judges' comments were how they kept referring to me as either 'both of you' or 'you two.'

Another interesting story is actually quite a recent one. In the GGCB group I am in, there was once a time where our promo was missing a little 'pling'-type coin noise at the end of the song.

Any advice for people interested in CBs?

If you want to join, just join it. You may never get the opportunity again.

I say this out of experience, as I have lost two chances at collaborating with others in Chorus Battles by hesitating for too long. Forming a group to try your hand at a Chorus Battle isn't hard at all, just the will to continue will bring you forwards in the race!!
